Up on the Roof!

Last month we were asked to cater for a surprise birthday party on a roof terrace! We love designing bespoke menus for our customers from just a few buzz words. This particular birthday boy was a big fan of meat, masterchef and fusion food. Check out some of the pictures from the night.

One of our favourite courses on the night was this cheeky palate cleanser we popped in before the desserts:

Strawberries with Pan Masala and Balsamic Reduction

Strawberries with Balsamic Reduction and Pan Masala

Bradley first tried Pan Masala in this way in Paris; “I was served it as a palate cleanser with lightly roasted strawberries. The aniseed flavours mixed with the menthol and cinnamon candy treats brought out the sweetness of the strawberries… It’s safe to say I was blown away. A great combo.”

Our version is delicious and simple to do. Just reduce some balsamic vinegar in a pan until it’s thick (a bit like black treacle) and drizzle a little onto your plate, add fresh strawberries and sprinkle with pan masala and some candied fennel seeds – you only need a tiny pinch of these spices per person as they’re jam packed with flavour. Pan Masala is a mixture of seeds and menthol sweets used as a mouth freshener after a meal, but it you can’t get hold of any try using a mix of fennel and cardamom seeds.

New Taylor & Nice!

Ginger Cake

Well hello there!

Over the last few months Bradley has been away touring Kate Tempest’s show ‘Wasted’ and Miriam has been scribbling recipes and giving this site a bit of decorative digital dusting – but now we’re back! Did you miss us?

We loved doing cabaret nights, but due to demand (and our joint enthusiasm for making delicious food) we have decided to focus all our efforts on the cooking side of our business.

Now we not only make canapés for events, but we also have a brand new Private Chef Hire string to our bow. Excited? You should be! If you’d like to throw a dinner party to remember then give us a shout – we’ll come round and cook up something exciting just for you. Have a butchers at our Private Chef Hire page and let us know what you think!

We hope you can find everything you’re looking for on our revamped site and feel free to say hello via our contact page x

Animal Circus to be our house band!

Animal Circus are a Brixton based collective of musicians and actors who play an eclectic mix of rock and roll, reggae and most everything in between! “We are heavily influenced by the mish mash of cultures that you find in Brixton, this informs our music and shapes our sound.”

Joel Fry, one of their lead singers also stars in White Van Man as Darren as well acting in other TV shows such as Trollied and Twenty Twelve. Their bass player is currently performing in Soul Sister on the West End…we’re still pinching ourselves that they are going to play at our first event! Don’t miss this – grab your tickets quick x

Comic Duo That Pair Confirmed for A Tropical Storm!

Two of the funniest people we know; That Pair (formerly The Silky Pair) Kathryn Bond and Lorna Shaw will be performing material from their critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe show 2012 at our next event A Tropical Storm. The pair have been likened to Flight of the Conchords and French and Saunders but perform their own unique blend of satire, clowning and silliness.

★★★★★ “Lorna and Kat take you on a whirlwind of physical, musical and intelligent comedy” – Broadway Baby 2012

“Look out for their future success” – The Sunday Times 2012

“Brilliantly written sketches and delightful musical numbers” – The Skinny 2012

“A very bright future in comedy” – Fringe Guru 201

Writer and Artist Diriye Osman confirmed for A Tropical Storm!

The next cat to be let out of our line-up bag comes in the form of writer & artist Diriye Osman. Diriye is going to be reading an extract from one of his short stories at our Tropical Storm event in Highgate next month; expect to be dazzled as he opens the show with a sparkling performance!

Diriye Osman is a Somali-born short story writer, visual artist and editor. His fiction and non-fiction has been published by Time Out, Prospect, Kwani?, Attitude, Poetry Review and SCARF, where he worked as the deputy editor. He has just completed a collection of illustrated short stories called ‘Fairytales For Lost Children’ and is currently at work on a series of paintings called ‘The Anima/ Animus Redux.’

Injured Birds singer Samuel Kirk confirmed for A Tropical Storm!

I just can’t keep these things a secret anymore! We are very happy to announce our first headline act for A Tropical Storm; a special solo performance by the lead singer and songwriter of Injured Birds, Samuel Kirk.

Injured Birds released the single “Happy As Clams” on the 3rd September. The track is taken from Injured Birds debut album ‘Silver Birches’ which follows on 5th November. Both are released via Denizen Recordings (a recent Huw Stephens ‘Label of Love’).

Injured Birds emerge from Nottingham’s flourishing Indie-Folk scene. It’s a scene bursting at the seams with talented contemporaries such as Jake Bugg, Dog Is Dead and Natalie Duncan, all of whom – alongside Injured Birds – are set to release music in the coming Autumn months. Nottingham is fast approaching its time to make a mark as a key UK musical and creative hotspot.

The sound of Injured Birds, however, could easily have been born from a wood cabin in the darkest, deepest American forest. Perhaps a very welcome result of Injured Birds recent days on the road touring the U.S.A’s Midwestern highways and venues.

While comparisons seem wrong when Injured Birds are offering something of a unique sound, it can’t be ignored that they share a little something of Bon Iver’s earthy, fragile beauty. Front man Samuel Kirk’s forlorn lyricism and heartbreaking falsetto vocal, the latter having been described by James Yuill as a“beautiful sonic syrup”.

We can’t wait!

Party #2

Last weekend was our second focus group, which quickly became recipe testing….which quickly became a PARTY. It was Bradley’s turn to play host so I packed up all my bits and bobs and headed out early on Saturday morning.

First on the menu were these little fellas, sweet potato patties.
The the canapés just kept rolling….

Bradley did a grand job as host and chief cocktail maker. His Rum punch and Dark & Stormy cocktails went down a treat.

Once everyone was well fed and cocktailed the pens and paper came out…

Thanks Rhodora, I also think Flying Martinis, Sunshine, Cold Pizza, a Rainbow and a Unicorn makes a pretty good night out too.

And I think Diriye liked our canapés 🙂

Taylor & Nice website is now Open!

Last night we launched our website officially…

Bellini on arrival (made with peach juice & prosecco)

…and we did our best to do it in style.

To kick off the event we asked everyone to write or draw their idea of what would make a great night out. Here are some of the sheets we collected:

Enough silliness, now for the serious bit…

…oh and a presentation or two 🙂

All presentations were thoroughly upstaged by this super cute puppy.

Exciting times! So keep your eyes and ears peeled for our first event! Come see us on Facebook or Twitter to stay in the loop!
