I just can’t keep these things a secret anymore! We are very happy to announce our first headline act for A Tropical Storm; a special solo performance by the lead singer and songwriter of Injured Birds, Samuel Kirk.
Injured Birds released the single “Happy As Clams” on the 3rd September. The track is taken from Injured Birds debut album ‘Silver Birches’ which follows on 5th November. Both are released via Denizen Recordings (a recent Huw Stephens ‘Label of Love’).
Injured Birds emerge from Nottingham’s flourishing Indie-Folk scene. It’s a scene bursting at the seams with talented contemporaries such as Jake Bugg, Dog Is Dead and Natalie Duncan, all of whom – alongside Injured Birds – are set to release music in the coming Autumn months. Nottingham is fast approaching its time to make a mark as a key UK musical and creative hotspot.
The sound of Injured Birds, however, could easily have been born from a wood cabin in the darkest, deepest American forest. Perhaps a very welcome result of Injured Birds recent days on the road touring the U.S.A’s Midwestern highways and venues.
While comparisons seem wrong when Injured Birds are offering something of a unique sound, it can’t be ignored that they share a little something of Bon Iver’s earthy, fragile beauty. Front man Samuel Kirk’s forlorn lyricism and heartbreaking falsetto vocal, the latter having been described by James Yuill as a“beautiful sonic syrup”.
We can’t wait!
